Natural Standard recently added a Healthy Recipes database to their clinical decision support tool. You will find the recipes on the “TOOLS” pull-down at NaturalStandard.com .
What makes the recipe database special is the ingredients link to their respective Natural Standard monographs. This allows clinicians to easily check for drug interaction, safety and allergy information when recommending these tasty meals. This is also a wonderful reference for planning healthy family meals. Check out chicken and artichokes with pasta to see how these recipes work.
Natural Standard was founded by clinicians and researchers to provide high quality, evidence-based information about complementary and alternative therapies. This data base has an A – Z listing of Foods, Herbs, and Supplements that will provide you with in-depth, evidenced-based information on herbal medicines including uses, dosing recommendations, scientific evidence, safety, interactions, and references.
If you would like more information on and/or assistance in using the Natural Standard database, contact Deb Knippel.

Book Review
18 Minutes: Find Your Focus, Master Distraction, and Get the Right Things Done
By Peter Bregman
Many of us can identify with the stories related to time management, procrastination, and motivation that Peter Bregman discusses in his book, 18 Minutes: Find Your Focus, Master Distraction, and Get the Right Things Done. Bregman encourages readers to “focus your year on the five areas that will make the most difference in your life.” He provides a practical approach to being successful in your work and/or personal life by taking small bits of time out of your day to check in with yourself to make sure 95% of your actions are in your areas of focus. We often try to get it all done when in reality, it is impossible to get it all done. One particular thought stands out for me:
“The secret to surviving a buffet is to eat fewer things. And the secret to thriving in your life is the same: Do fewer things.”
The author challenges the reader “to choose the one thing you’ve read from this book that will make the most difference in your life and do it” and then see what happens. 18 Minutes: Find Your Focus, Master Distraction, and Get the Right Things Done is available from the Ministry Health Science Library. Contact Deb Knippel if you would like to check out this book from the library.

Oral Health for Infants, Children, Adolescents, and Pregnant Women
The MCH Library and the National Maternal and Child Oral Health Resource Center at Georgetown University have developed a new edition of the knowledge path, Oral Health for Infants, Children, Adolescents, and Pregnant Women. This knowledge path directs readers to a selection of current, high-quality resources that analyze data, describe effective programs, and report on policy and research aimed at improving access to and quality of oral health care. The knowledge path can be used by health professionals, program administrators, and policymakers to learn more about oral health, for program development, and to locate training resources and information to answer specific questions. The knowledge path also links to separate resource briefs for families and for schools and to briefs on topics such as the dental home, dental sealants, and oral health for children and adolescents with special health care needs. View the knowledge path online at http://www.mchoralhealth.org/knwpathoralhealth.html.
